Coin with Bee, from Ephesus

2025
Print: 8 x 10 inches

This image of the obverse (front) of a silver Coin from Ephesus with Bee dates to the 4th century B.C.E. The bee is a symbol of the Greek city of Ephesus, on the west coast of Turkey today. The Greek letters Ε (epsilon) and Φ (phi) frame the bee. Worship of Artemis at Ephesus absorbed an earlier cult of an Anatolian goddess whose symbol was the bee.
