Horse and Rider fragment

Block 21, South Frieze, Parthenon
(Acropolis Museum)
2023
Print: 8 x 10 inches

This horse and rider fragment from the south frieze of the Parthenon is beautiful to see and to study, despite its state of preservation. The frieze has a depth of carving at approximately three inches yet the sense of layers and depth is beautifully conveyed. The frieze dates to 442-438 B.C.E.
